ABOUT

If you’re thinking too much about an outfit, it isn’t right.

For stylist and designer Alejandra Hernandez, intuition is everything. Whether she’s collaborating with artists or sketching ready-to-wear designs for brands, Ale always trusts her instincts.

As she puts it, “I hate when I don’t listen to myself.” Ale honors her own sensibility as her key currency in this industry. Whatever she does, Ale knows who she is. It’s this trust in herself that defines Ale’s 20 years in fashion.

A map of Ale’s personal style evolution reads a lot like a map of Los Angeles.

Growing up in the San Fernando Valley, Ale found inspiration in her parent’s signature styles. Her mother is Peruvian and a jeweler. When Ale thinks of her, she sees stacks of gold necklaces, bracelets, and earrings jingling. Before immigrating to the U.S., her Argentinian father sold 501s and other American-made denim at his small shop in Argentina. He still wears a pair of Levi 501s every single day.

In the ‘90s, LA was the playground on which Ale discovered the more adventurous elements of her style. Getting dressed became her art form, and her aesthetic took on the free spirit of the city – mixing high and low, combining imperfect items to create perfect outfits, and not needing to take herself too seriously to look amazing.

Ale finds lots of inspiration from the film and TV of this time too. Clueless, Moesha, Troop Beverly Hills, Absolutely Fabulous, She’s All That, Sex and The City…you know…all the good stuff. She looks up to iconic women like Patricia Field, Madonna, and Rosie Perez.

Ale tells stories, captures characters, and commemorates achievements through fashion with deep reverence. Earlier this year, she worked with the record-breaking R&B artist SZA on a suite of projects. SZA's “Shirt” music video, her Time 100 2022 cover, and her new album artwork…Of course, that’s a small piece of their professional history together.

Ale prides herself on the relationships she’s able to cultivate with artists over time. She is open minded, solutions oriented, and confidence inspiring on set and in real life.

Fate will decide her future. She lets go of any need to force her destiny beyond that. She foresees film and TV projects coming her way. Ale also strives to amplify awareness of Latinx contributions to the fashion industry.

She loves being a mom and looks forward to witnessing more of her toddler's many milestones. Soon she will marry her longtime love and nurture their family. Of course, she loves to dress both of her guys up.
